Fek
Age
24.
Your talent
Artist and musician.
Where you're from?
The Riruta division of Nairobi.
Why did you get interested in music?
I got into music because of the passion I have for it. I'm mostly a producer so I have worked with quite a few artists and have collaborated on various occasions.
What are you up to now?
At the moment, I'm working on several albums simultaneously, for artists that I have signed to my studio, BOMA records. It's great to be working with so many talented artists and I hope the tracks produced by myself and Sazzo, my Co-Producer at BOMA, get travellers into the positive Kenyan vibe.
What was your best gig and why?
Not yet, although I'm expecting to step into the limelight soon. I'm preparing my 'ammo' then I'm going to make my move! I've also organised for many of my artists to participate in shows, as curtain raisers at numerous gigs.
Is there any place in Kenya that inspires you in terms of your music?
Sure! Malindi is definitely an inspiring place - located at the mouth of the Galana River, on the Indian Ocean coast of Kenya.
If you could pick your dream wildlife destination in Kenya - where would it be and what would you get up to there?
Nairobi National Park, because of its proximity to my place of work and residence.
You can take your pick from 10 of the best national parks and game reserves with Acacia Adventure Holidays, but you might even be able to catch up with Fek on the 18-day Mountain Gorillas to the Mara, an overland tour that hits the buzzing cosmopolitan capital en route to the Maasai Mara.
What do you love about the Kenyan people?
They know how to have a good time.
Who out of your musical/artistic influences would make the best game viewing partner and why?
I'd definitely have "Bamboo" (a Kenyan who is US based) on my guest list, the reason being he is a great crowd puller and very creative - he would definitely attract the wildlife and also Amy Winehouse, as she is pure entertainment.
Your best track and why?
A track -"onja onja". It's funny and it's a reflection of Kenya's party life.
How does it feel to be in Kenya now - what are travellers missing out on?
It feels great; anyone who isn't here yet is missing out big on the pleasant sunshine and the peaceful atmosphere.
Can you give adventurers the inside track on travel in your home destination - what should they bring with them to Kenya?
A big appetite for "nyama choma" (roast meat), some sun glasses, and extra cushioning for the few potholes you'll find here and there hahahahaha!!
What would be the first words you'd utter to a tourist if you hooked up with them on the street, and where's the first place you'd take them to in downtown Nairobi?
"Unachoraje?" Then I'd take them to a club and we would finish up with a crate of beer, coz, the Kenyans love to have fun and party.
"Must have" phrases for adventurers in Kenya…
"nimechapa ile mbaya"(Slang for I'm beat / tired / finished)
"sina ganji" (slang for I have no money)
