Nail down a stay in Nairobi: Culture, energizing vibes and wildlife all rolled into one great city...

Nairobi cityscape - www.magicalkenya.com

Kenya's capital is alive and kicking - as you'll see from the "Crazy About Kenya" website - all of the talented musicians and artists calling Nairobi their home. However, even before you get to the capital you'll be treated to some of its modern day vibes - Acacia Adventure Holidays' Kenya overland trucks coming fully equipped with the latest sounds from the project.

The popularly titled, "Green City in the Sun" is the fourth largest city in Africa, housing 4 million people. It's hard to believe that Nairobi was originally little more than a swampy watering hole for the Maasai tribe, but by 1900, with the advent of the railway, it became a bustling town, and by 1907 - the capital of all British East Africa. In fact, only a 15-minute taxi ride from the centre is the "Karen Blixen Museum" - home to the "Out of Africa Author" and a living reminder of the era.

A city in the wilderness, you can also check out Kenya's animal kingdom at the nearby Snake Park and Nairobi National Park. Composed of plains, cliffs and forest, the 113kms2 national park is home to large herds of Zebra, Wildebeest, Buffalo, Giraffe, Rhino, Cheetah, and Lion - all living right on the city's doorstep. Further out of town, the spectacular 27-metre deep 'Fourteen Falls' waterfalls at Thika are perfect for a scenic day trip, or travellers can choose to experience the nearby Ol Donyo Sabuk National Park, centred around an imposing 2,146m mountain. And for those who want a wet and wild adventure, there is even white water rafting available on the beautiful Tana River - an hour's drive out of central Nairobi. A city unlike any other, the fantastic wildlife is complimented by a vibrant music scene, excellent restaurants and an endless and colourful array of shops and markets. If we had to sum it up, I guess we'd say - this is the city that never stops.

You don't have to stop when the safari ends, as Acacia Adventure Holidays offers a 3-day Nairobi City stay that can be combined with your trip. Alternatively, you can overland through the wilds of Africa and spend a few days in the capital on the 39-day Ultimate African Adventure.
